Happy Thanksgiving!
Here at vm_fic, we've got a lot to be thankful for. I, personally, am thankful for all my wonderful fellow editors, and also for all the great authors we have in fandom. After all, without the great pieces that they write, I wouldn't have that much to do within this community, now would I?
There are a lot of great Veronica Mars fanfic communities out there, so - in celebration of Thankgiving (the American one, because - after all - Veronica is American too), we thought we'd make a post of these great communities, along with a description (written by the community moderators) so that we each are aware of what options we all have as far as VM fic. Maybe we don't recommend enough slash for your tastes, or maybe you love reading fics that are more ... secondary within canon. There's probably a community geared towards whatever specific interest you have, and hopefully you can find more fics that you'll enjoy there.
veronicamarsfic - As the general "catch-all" for Veronica Mars fiction, authors are allowed to post just about any fanfic here, as long as it's not less than 100 words (a drabble). There's a lot of stuff posted here, and there's probably something for everyone.
veronica100 - This is a community that is centered around drabbles for the Veronica Mars fandom. Drabbles are typically 100 words in length, but we're not too picky about the actual number of words as long as it stays within a reasonable area. The community is open to anyone who wishes to share their drabbles.
vm_betas - This community is designed as a place for authors to come and receive constructive criticism on their pieces. This community by no means meant to replace the action of individual betas, but sometimes multiple opinions on a piece or a style of writing can be helpful. All are encouraged to read fanfics here and offer their honest, constructive opinions of pieces.
vm_ficresource - While this community is not a location to *post* fanfic, it's a location where writing resource articles are written and posted. Currently, articles about HTML, original characters, point of view, and more have been archived.
vm_santa - This is a Secret Santa gift exchange community. Members make fandom requests (which can be of any type--fics, icons, videos, graphics, etc.) in the beginning stage. Then, each person is assigned someone in the community to make a gift for based on the posted lists. At the end, everyone posts their gifts for each other, and there will be an EXPLOSION of VM media. Fic of all pairings, ratings, and genres, videos, soundtracks, and multitudes of graphics, from icons to LJ layouts, will be represented. As long as it's requested, someone will make it!
vmfanficutopia - VMFanficUtopia is the brainchild of several posters at TWoP, who became frustrated during the summer after the first season, as both writers and readers, when the fic started to taper off during the hiatus. We thought it would be a great idea to inspire writers by issuing challenges to be completed within three weeks, with an award session at the end of each session. What makes VMFanficUtopia different, is that we try to focus on different characters than just the main ones, to really open up people's imaginations beyond just 'shipper fic (though we certainly welcome that, too). Challenges have included depicting how secondary and tertiary characters spent their summer break, or how various characters (including the adults in Neptune) might have originally met. Our main objective was to create a community that is open to all writers, and open to all characters. The community is only run during lengthy hiatuses from the show, as what we really try to do is challenge people to think creatively when inspiration may be running low. Anyone is welcome to join, as a writer or a reader, and all past fic is archived in the memories for everyone to enjoy.
09erdom - '09erdom is a "Veronica Mars" community for the Neptune High B-cast students: the '09ers (Dick, Casey, Madison, ect.) and our other favorite NH students (Meg, Felix, Mac, etc.). We welcome any fic centered around these characters. All posted fics, including those found through other communities, are archived in the memories by character.
totallyveronica - This is a relaxed, general community for everything Veronica Mars related. From graphics to icons, fanfiction to spoilers, cast info to pictures. Anything you feel the need to share about our favourite show!
veronicalogan - This is a community for fanfiction, icons, speculation, spoilers, and anything else Veronica/Logan related. Our memories section will soon have an archive of all posted fanfiction, icons, etc. as well as each episode discussion.
loveathons - This is a fanfiction challenge community dedicated to exploring the steamy side of the Veronica and Logan relationship. Every three to four weeks, we post a theme and ask writers to create Logan/Veronica works that fit it. The fictions must be rated R or NC-17. Although fanfiction is our main focus, we encourage the submission of graphics that fit our current theme as well. At the end of each challenge, a readers’ poll is run to award the best submitted fiction in six categories (Hottest, Angstiest, Fluffiest, Most Original, Best Use of Point of View, and Best Characterization) and the best of any submitted graphics. The community mods (currently rachel_shanz, sinca, and truemyth) also award Judges’ Choice to their favorite overall fiction. The community has a fully open membership and welcomes submissions from all creators. Challenge themes at loveathons have included: Pool Smut, Bondage, Ice Cream, and our current (11/22/05 to 12/19/05) challenge “Caught In The Act.”
vm_aufiction - The community was started by a big fan of alternate-universe fiction when she realized it was hard to find good AU fic buried in all the other communities. So this one was born for all kinds of AU fan fic, from episode rewrites to totally different worlds or future fics. All kinds are welcome here, and challenges are issued periodically depending on participation. The memories are also fairly up to date with fics being categorized by author.
