My heart hurts today.
I 'met'
epicallytired, aka Vamphile, through BJFic.net. I think the first fic of hers that I read was All Mistakes Are Temporary, also known by the name End Done Right. I remember gushing to her in a review at BJF. She was very sweet, and let me know that she was posting a fic on LJ. That fic became the first part of the amazing Keeping series, Brother's Keeper.
I later became more familiar with her through LJ and IJ, and, at one time, was the keeper of her commas.
You see, Vamp had an unnatural aversion to punctuation. XD There were times when she'd send me a chapter of something and said, "Hey, so can you throw some commas and shit in there?" It was a running joke between us.
Vamp had a gift. Not just for writing, but for dialogue. No one in QAF fandom can top her on that score. She had a version of Brian and Justin that, for me, was always kind of the 'real' Brian and Justin. She had them saying things that I could imagine coming out of their mouths. She was never fluffy, and I loved that. Funny, yes, but never fluffy. She could break you with her words. Remember Whore In A Hoodie? I spent weeks looking over her drabbles and just...hurting. Anyone who can do that with 100 words at a time is a genius. And she was.
I was lucky enough to be allowed to write a fic in her Visible verse, with the stipulation that she read and approve it before I posted. She did, and told me good job. I grinned for a week.
firehead30 once told me that Vamp 'had a voice like a phone sex operator'. I spoke to Vamp once on the phone for a few hours, and Fire was right. Vamp had the sexiest voice and the most boisterous laugh. Like, deep belly laughs. She was partly responsible for luring me into Supernatural.
I could talk about her all day. I should have done it sooner. I think she knew that I adored her. I will miss her always.
Those of us who knew her, who loved her stories, take a moment to remember this wonderful, sometimes tortured, brilliant soul. Share her stories with those new to fandom.
It just occurred to me that both inhabitants of The Church Of Brian And Justin are gone. But their words remain. If there is a Heaven, I hope that Valerie Z and Vamp are there, writing porn and laughing about monkey butlers.
