The Case Of The Vanishing Harry Potter Fanfiction
So, I was on the phone with the_minx_17 yesterday, and, as usual, we started going all old school HP. You know, the "do you remember" and "did you ever read" kinda thing.
We went to the go-to for the best fic around, PSA. From there, we flitted from archive to archive, lamented, once again, the demise of The Silver Snitch...and how many of you remember being there, back in the day, hitting F5 every two minutes waiting for someone to update a fic? I know, right!?! We got to Walking The Plank and discovered something rather unusual.
A fairly large repository for Snarry fic, it seems that half of the fic once posted there is gone. Along with several authors that I know used to post there. After commenting on that, we went to The Hex Files, looking for something else. And whaddaya know, more than half the fic is missing from there as well. As in, there's about 2500 fics posted there.
Like, approximately 2500. Give or take.
What the fuck, y'all!?!?
Does anyone know where the fic has gone? Seriously, in one of my other fandoms, we've had archives just close up overnight, taking thousands of fics along with it. Imagine if you went to go read The Apple Tree, or A Thousand Beautiful Things or Welcome To The Real World or...and they were just gone?
Anyone with info, please share. I might be old, but dammit, I didn't imagine over 10k fics posted at an archive, okay?
