Thank you so much for sharing your insightful and honest thoughts, Ted. I know they are issued without malice or ill-intent, and I do appreciate knowing what I've gotten right and what doesn't work so well.
That being said, I agree that on a strictly physical level, getting off with anal stimulation would be almost a given. However, and you'll have to correct me here if this isn't the case with men, nervousness and stress and just feeling so desperate to achieve orgasm can actually inhibit having an orgasm, just as psychological issues can cause erectile problems. It has been a while and maybe I should have found a way to get Ennis' POV in there long enough to refresh everyone's memory, but towards the end of "Till Death...", Ennis had very conflicting thoughts about whether he didn't like Jack penetrating him because he was still too hung up on not being queer, or that he was just too uptight for other reasons to enjoy it. He was really worried that Jack would think he[Jack] was the one doing something wrong since Ennis couldn't seem to relax and enjoy it. This problem has been building over time, and with each 'failure' the problem has gotten a little worse. Then there's Jack, who has been doubting his own masculinity and worthiness and is reacting to Ennis' physical reactions to Ennis' own stresses that Jack knows nothing about, by becoming more convince that he[Jack] is the problem. They have both been worrying about not pleasing the other, so is it really that far-fetched that it would actually affect their physical performances? I'm not trying to be sarcastic at all, but written comments don't always come across as sincere, and I am asking seriously. As for Ellie, sex may be her business, but she's still having to do a lot of guessing when it comes to how two men who are actually in love would relate to each other. What she did know is that Jack's ego needed some kind of definitive a boost. Maybe she over-simplified it, but if Jack (she's not really aware of Ennis' issues) could relax and quit trying to force something that should happen naturally, maybe it could happen naturally. The cycle had to be broken somehow, and right or wrong, she gave Jack something else to think about besides that he was inadequate as a lover. I also feel the need to question the idea that just because orgasm is achieved the act would necessarily be a pleasurable experience. How many rape victims have had to deal with that issue, that their body's automatic reaction to physical stimulation didn't mean they wanted or liked what was being done to them? While Ennis reaching completion with Jack penetrating him would do wonders for Jack's confidence at this point, would it necessarily mean that Ennis found it pleasurable enough to want to do it on a regular basis? (I'm getting too long winded here, so I have to continue in the next post)
