(no subject)
I am so excited. I went to Natalie's orchestra concert tonight, and it really got me pumped about playing again. I've been throwing around the idea for a while, but I just haven't had time, motivation, etc. That's all over. I'm going to make time. I'm going to take my viola out to Rolling Meadows sometime this week to get it fixed up and checked out, make sure everything's good to go... I'm sure the sound post is a mess and they might even want me to get a new bridge, and I definitely need new strings, but once all that's taken care of (and mom and dad are going to pick up the check.. yay!), I'll be set to start playing again. It's just sad, because I was really good in high school, and I really should never have given it up. I even considered viola performance as a MAJOR, and then once I decided against it, I just stopped altogether. I never should have given it up. And now I've realized it. So I'm going to fix it. I may or may not get a teacher, we'll see. If I do get a teacher, it'll be mostly for support and motivation and musical selection.... and someone to force me to play my scales, since I hate them and I'm pretty sure I won't do it often enough if I'm just trying to motivate myself. Eh.
But anyway, I pulled my viola down from its place atop a bookshelf tonight after the concert, and tuned it up. It's not nearly in as bad of shape as I thought it would be. So yeah, I'll take it over to The String Project this week, and I'll be all set. I'm excited. Like, really, genuinly excited. In a couple months, if I work at it, I think I can be back up to the level I was at when I quit.
Also, who knew, my three roommates and I form a perfect string quartet, totally coincidentally. I mean, I knew Natalie was a violinist, but I didn't know Molly played violin or Claire cello when I met them, or for a while after I met them. So we might start playing some quartets together starting next quarter, when Claire gets a cello. So when I go to the string project, I'll probably be sheet music shopping also. Excellent.
