all week working, two nights drinking

I really don't even know where to begin. So, I guess, I'll cut to the chase, then start from the beginning.

ursamajr had asked me to bring her another PoA Gryffindor tie last night, which I did. About two-thirds of the way through the Kaiser Chiefs set, I realized that Ricky was wearing a nondescript burgundy and gold tie and that, well, I had access to a much prettier one, so I tied it (badly, I realize now - it turned out a bit Seamus-y), loosened the knot, and tossed it on stage. I seem to recall going bazonkers when I saw (in slow mo, it seemed) Ricky start taking off his tie, and put on this one. I figure no one but the half-dozen girls down in front really got it, but those who did were quite amused. Plus, Ricky looks gooooood as a Gryffie.

Alright. So after work, I met lightstarangel and ursamajr at Cosmic, as has become traditional, for a bit of pre-drinking. We laughed and giggled and were generally dirty, and by 6.30 we'd each consumed our fair share of sangria and headed down to Bowery. The doors to the lounge hadn't opened yet, so we joined thechairguy at the front of the line outside, and then were joined by sam42. Went in and staked out our traditional couch and resumed drinking (or, in Sam's case, got started O:)). The two of us squeed about Franzy things as Sarah, thethrillisgone, and Erik arrived.

Eventually we t00bed on upstairs and staked out the center-left piece of the stage and spent the hour until Jonny came on... just bullshitting, I guess. Sam had a minor altercation with the wall while trying to snatch a Chiefs poster, and I had a bit of difficulty keeping a drink upright and not soaking through my bag. We were joined, also, by aprilrhye and jubileebanker, and before too long, Mr Jonny Dubowsky and his gang of merry men took the stage.

Now, it's no great secret that we as a group are fairly enamored of Jonny Lives!. They are reliably quite good, if not particularly innovative, and Jonny himself is pretty amusing when his ego is at its puffiest. That said, I think that last night was easily the best they've played (and I don't think that's just my blood alcohol content talking). Adrienne, Shar, and I belted lyrics like the dedicated fangirls we are, and I'm sure Shawn and Brian were squeeing in a quiet, manly way as well. And, in hopes that Jonny some day can surpass his current "oh, we're huge in England" level of fame, I offer the essential Jonny Lives! - thirteen songs from three home-burned EPs. I particularly enjoy "Lost My Mind," but then, I'm moderately unhinged on a good day.

Morningwood... dammit, they still suck. I chose to hit the merch table and the bar instead of paying any particular attention to them, since the front woman pretty much makes me want to crack my skull open and use my brain as a basketball. This means that I missed the ass and titties song, which IMNSHO is their only one with any redeeming value, but in the end I was pleased with my decision. Before too long, we'd squeezed back up between the boys and were ready for the Chiefs set. Adrienne bitched out a girl who claimed she 1) belonged at the front because she was first on line, and 2) was "the singer's sister", despite her lack of accent or knowledge of Ricky's name. The thing about that is, um... no, bitch. Just NO.

The Chiefs... goddammit, they're fucking brilliant. As much as I loved them at Mercury last month, I love them a million times more now that I know their songs and bought the magazines and have otherwise done my fangirl research. I was too consumed with dancing and singing to take pictures - I figure I can do that at Maxwell's on Tuesday - and had the set been any longer, I would certainly sound like a sixty-year-old pack-a-day smoker today. I pogo-ed and and squeed and made up for the lethargy of the dude next to me. I have numerous invisi-bruises scattered across my body, and I seem to have pulled a stomach muscle. It was, and not just because of the tie incident, quite possibly my new #1 concert experience.

After the show, I ran outside to call mommadala and babble incoherently about Gryff!Ricky. We hung around for a bit after the show in hopes of fangirling Ricky in person and I nearly succeeded (sam42 actually did :D), but I finally succumbed to leave-the-poor-crippled-musician-alone syndrome. Once again, can fangirl at Maxwell's. Everyone else headed home, as Adri, Brian, Erik, and I headed to Katz's, where we hung around talking and nibbling latkes for two hours. This was very awesome, because Erik is pretty much the shit, and A-Train and Smelly aren't bad company, either. ;) We left at like 2.30, by which time Erik had missed his train back to the boonies, so I kept him company for another hour back at Cosmic. Turns out he's a pretty big geek, which is always a plus as far as it goes with not having to sanitize various dorky pursuits. Finally got home after 3.30, had a glass of water and some cheese, and went to bed.

And then I get to do it all over (only in the company of the snarktastic vejgurl, too) on Tuesday. I fucking can't wait.
