Of awkward writing, loved/hated characters and double standards interpretations

aka I’m tired of this wave of “How can you even write about Richard or R/M? He’s an abuser… blablabla…”

I know it’s bad to disturb the wedding bliss and all, but some overenthusiastic M/M fans seem to take some delight in provoking the very rare Richard fans and writers on Tumblr and FFnet…

I’ve been asked (anonymously, of course) “How can anybody ( Read more... )

Dankie ;-) I have to admit that one post on your LJ (combined with the anons) pushed me to write to get it off my chest. I've been in and out fandoms for more than fifteen years, and I've rarely observed such a level of intolerance. With an old friend from high school, a geek among geeks, we commented that, as a whole, fandoms were getting worse and worse, wanting to see what they want (vs what they need), denying creators their liberty (some fans of a video-game demanded a new ending because they did not like the current one) and being absolutely unable to imagine that their interpretation of a media isn't the only one possible (I might risk the expression "totalitarian interpretation"), which explains the endless wars, and waves of provocation (especially when the OTP has won).
More, some attitudes make me think of soccer supporters (that's not a compliment from me) who just can't stand the other teams' supporters, who constantly accuse the referee and so on, until fighting, for real. I guess the most radical fangirls (our dear anons for instance) are the feminine equivalent of soccer "ultras" and such... Sad...
Gods be good, I try to get some distraction from my work in writing fanfics, and such reactions make me use concepts and analysis I've worked on for five years for my PhD, ironic, isn't it?

Yeah, I've been in fandoms for about that long, too, and the experience really does get worse and worse all the time. Or maybe it's my choice of pairings, lol.

That too...
But, honestly, I've even seen fights within the Castle fandom ;-) Castle and Beckett, now that's a cool, interesting, well acted ship (I admit I've got a soft spot for Nathan Fillon since Firefly...)
