Yeah I hate EFCs as much as the next guy, and four GMs is pretty much going to be the absolute max. It's more a "fachead" role than it is any power scale thing this time around.

Well then you're hitting the same issue, because now the facheads are these outsiders and you can never reach that point.

Having them be the founders and perhaps important roles in the factions is fair enough I would say, and I could even see the point of 'These guys are in charge for the first two months so as to let people develop.'

Go read my factions post, and I think it'll enlighten quite a bit.

From a storytelling perspective, the rationale behind Gamemasters being utilized a lot in metaplots was: because you could app pretty much everything else.

And when everyone is special, no one will be.

The GMs of yore were reserved as a special class because that was one of the few things (other than godlike inappables such as Crazy Hand) that was going to be interesting and special when it showed up. The weakness of an "app anything" sandbox is that it's pretty difficult for any particular appable thing to get "sold." That's why the Alt-U TPs with licensed characters were also fun to do, because that was something you don't see every day.

So says Mr. Stewart.

I would like to hope that people will sell other people out of the desire to make a shared world that is both fun and enjoyable ( ... )

This is, of course, simply my opinion on the subject. It's not like there aren't amazing Superman players too.

Ultimately, my point is:

livejournal needs editable comments, and

It's the player, not the character, who is special. All players are equally special, or at least as special as they are willing to be.

I agree with you in the abstract sense that what makes a character interesting is his/her personality and not his/her super powers. (That's what made Lady A fun for me, even if she was a Mary Sue a lot of the time. The way some things were totally normal to her and other things were weird and bizzare because of her upbringing. Not her powers per se but how they colored her interactions. Anyway.)

I'm not talking about best practices though. I'm not talking about special, memorable, fun. I'm talking about "what the average player will sell." If you need to hit them with a big whammy of some kind, during a TP.

Of course the other option is that dudes will always sell best their favorite guy from the game they like the best.

Other than that, for big metaplots, that's why Gamemasters often were used.

(also you can totally edit comments if you have a paid account I just did it)
