Karal winced, but he knew that the pain would help. A sacrifice always had to be made, and this was Dean's. He couldn't help wondering what his would be. "It is working," he said quietly.
Karal smiled. "I'm glad." Thank you, Sunlord. Whatever the cost for this, I'll pay it with a glad heart. "Which doesn't mean you should be in a hurry to test it!"
"Not sure exactly how I'd do that anyway," Dean said. "I mean it's not like I can there's a demon bar I can walk into with a sign on me saying 'Here I am, try and possess me.'"
"They haven't really seemed to have had much interest in possessing me in the past," Dean continued. "Just, y'know, everyone around me. But better safe than sorry, y'know."
"Yes." Karal's agreement was heartfelt. "But the more you hunt them, the greater chance that they will try. You are a threat. Once they know that, they will fight back." He put his elbows on his knees, leaning forward slightly, staying orientated towards the sound of Dean's voice. "It should warn you, as well, of their presence. So long as you have faith in Him."
"I believe so," he replied. "Altra says that it will, but you should not rely on it. Rely first on your own ability and knowledge, and trust your instincts. Vkandis Sunlord will only intervene when all will be lost if He doesn't. He expects His people to rely on their wits. Your tattoo will work on the same principles. I think." He pushed a hand through his curls, sighing a little. "No one has ever tried anything like this before."
