Still deep in the weeds re parental insurance. My second take is that Employer sub'bed out Medicare supplemental insurance (with Medicare as primary) with a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C with D as well so prescriptions are still covered.) My Dad knew about this but didn't bother to tell anyone. (!) Of course it was the only 'choice' he was offered so I guess he figured what the heck. Still he doesn't get he's not on Medicare proper any more and so everything has to change.
Employer says on phone that this is an HMO; Dad's card says he enrolled in a PPO. There is a slight difference.
That was ironic.
It's not a bad plan. I'm halfway through the 92 page booklet--if I've got the right one. Although I'm still trying to figure out if they are now on the hook for 20% of everything since they only have one insurance now, also what the '10%' copay for specialist care means, also what happens to Mom when Dad dies and takes his insurance with him (deal he made when he retired for more pension money upfront). I suppose she goes back to Medicare with no supplemental in all likelihood cause she'll be poor.
Also have to find out if lung specialist takes whatever this insurance is, before I take off a week to drag Mom to appointment. Also if not, how are we going to get her oxygen scrip. Also figure out what this means to oxygen supplier, who needs new insurance info. Possibly means another Certificate of Medical Necessity, Permanent for new insurance.
I have to get to work now, but will likely spend part of day on phone with health plans in between experiments. *sob*
