I blew a tire today running errands and am on the hook for four new ones due to...something or another about all-wheel drive. Ill-afforded at this point.  I'll be living with a concrete floor a while longer, I guess.

Eep. I do paint them that way, don't I? There are lots of nice people there, but they tend (like me) to be the silent ones. I do wade into controversies but it's painful for me to speak out, especially in dissent. If I'm not in dissent I'm content to nod and smile. We've have had a couple of really nice presidents, and I'm very fond of a couple of the teacher reps.

I never know how to answer the question, 'so how was your summer?' I haven't had a 'summer' since I left school. It's just another season at this point. A little more stressful since there's camp to arrange, and it's hot, which I dislike. But I work, and cook, and take the kids wherever they're going and pick them up. We did manage a vacation this year, but only because I worked a class into it. It was fun though.

But we live in a fairly well-off area and I just feel out of it when others are trading stories of Disneyworld and Hawaii and Europe and their house at the beach or even lounging around their backyard pool. I don't want to sound judgemental or envious, even though I am a little, so I tend to say something noncommittal like 'it was good'.

Kind of sorry I skipped it now. At least there would be earthquake and hurricane stories to swap!
