I wondered how the gender ratio would end up, of John's friends along the way. Mostly women, if you count his wives as friends, and from the evidence of Lochley I think you can. I went back and forth on Garibaldi. I pretty much feel their friendship never got back to what it was after the double betrayals...even though neither were totally Michael's fault, it's hard to get back to where you were, and John's no saint.

It's a big of a add-on, but really was part of the original start; that is John is shown drinking, occasionally at least, then stops. Somehow it ended up as a journey.
