I have no idea where to find all that mess, it was a long time ago when dinosaurs roamed the internet, and it was spread over time and space.

I was such an earnest newbie (and we're talking 2006/2007 here) that I ran around asking questions and badgering people and taking it all way serious. There are rules, did you know that? Someone wrote fic rules. My God. And 'official' categories. And lists of 'Things One Does Not Do.'

I went through a 'tell me the rules and I will follow them' phase, then a 'I don't care' phase, then a 'Keep your head down and no one will notice' phase, now it's all faded to a sort of weary free-form anxiety.

The worst of fandom is like high school redux. Well, my high school, perhaps not yours. Now I try to look at generalized 'fandom' like the school of fish in Finding Nemo, you know, the ones who spoke like Cliff from Cheers? They all turn the same direction at once, and follow each other rather than a leader, and scatter at the sight of a predator. But they always re-form, make something bigger than themselves when they're working together, and are generally helpful to confused Dories.

Now I really gotta get to work!
