Wonderful! We woke to a lovely morning - and our "big leader" promised us a nice trip!
I got up very early, well, me and our bed didn´t become friends and I had a backache. I tool a nice morning stroll around Kettlewell.
Then we set off UP and UP and UP. It was that bog steep hill above the village. It was cold but mostly sunny and we definitely became warm soon, climbing over those numerous dry stone walls and UP.
I used my scarf to cover my ears against sharp wind and puffed up. We had enough time and so it was really comfortable. We saw Kettlewell below together with gorgeous Yorkshire Dales (I learned that a dale=valley) and then we were on the summit and celebrated with a drink of wine and a small snack.
We saw a complex of other valleys and rivers and there was another stone village down there expecting us. How beautiful! No other settlements, just green grass, high hills, brown heather and some bracken . But wnat I loved were those "green paths" James Herriot mentions in his books. Bright green paths on heather-covered slopes leading down to another village! And hundreds of wild rabbit burrows.
We had delicious creamy mushroom soup in "The Falcon" inn in Arncliffe village ( actually a small copy of Kettelwell together with that typical small church and cemetery, only much younger) and went on, following a river and making a huge turn back to "our" village.
We saw the road where the World Championship was supposed to use on Sunday (it was Saturnday) - a neck-breaking profile and with water running unexpectadly across the road, horrible curves and so narrow!!!!
Well, we got home tired healthily and hungry - and we managed more than 15 km!
What a glorious morning! Do you see that rocky hill? This was our destination!
Up up up we walk...
...to see Kettlewell below out feet and that wonderful landscape.
I hope you believe me that I was really HAPPY!
A traditional toast on the summit!
This is that "green path" - isn´t it grogeous? And imagine the heather in full bloom....*thud*
There is another small village in the dale...
Heading back to Kettlewell along the Wharfe River.
