The nice thing about a house made of candy is that you can cover a gaping opening in the roof with a lightly microwaved tootsie roll. You can't see from here, but there's a whole gummi bear party scene inside, with singing around the tree, canoodling in the corner, and someone passed out in the doorway.




We had a fun and lively family gift exchange, split about equally between things made and bought. There was much merriment and gift stealing. I eventually got this artwork of my neice's weavings:



My number was too early, so I didn't have a chance for this sweet watercolor and poem from my dad:


Through the middle pane of my kitchen door
A framed triangle, bold trunks of young trees
Their limbs criss-crossing, spidery twigs
A spatter of dead leaves, an abstract painting
In shades of brown against a steel-gray sky
