Today I went with Iana to a HSC lecture held by
TSFX at USYD. Got up at 7:25am whilst fighting off a dream (I'm really really tired whenever I try to wake up in the middle of a dream D:) and caught the train to Newton ---> bus to uni. Although the lecture was 3.5hrs long, it was really awesome and taught me a lot of tips and hints and fun facts and many things I never knew.
In order to develop good studying habits, we need to invent our own "study bank" and ideally we should be studying 4 hours per day for 5 days, amounting to 20 hours a week. That's a lot of studying and effective ways to commit things to long term memory involves consistent repetition and revising of every subject and doing homework the day it's assigned, for we're prone to forget what we learn if we don't do anything with the information in the following 24 hours of new material.
A lot of useful things were taught and from now on I've learn to teach the dog everytime I revise.
Which means reading out information out loud and answering your own questions in order to utilise the central part of the brain (which is for long term memory.) Since I don't have a dog, I've decided to teach the wall instead. (Yes, it may seem insane from another person's perspective, but hey, if it works, I'll do it yo)
Another important thing is to change your attitude and just get on with the task. A way to do so is to convince yourself: I love studying. Apparently if you say that enough and believe in it, you won't procrastinate and delay tasks as much...
I LOVE STUDYING.
I LOVE STUDYING.
I LOVE STUDYING.
I LOVE STUDYING.
I LOVE STUDYING.
I LOVE STUDYING.
The lecturer also focused a lot on telling us to believe in ourselves and our abilities and how we can do it if we try our best. But then in the end I also believe it's not what we do, we can't rely just on ourselves to achieve our personal goals. It's important too to rely on God, do your best and leave the rest to Him.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
That said, I should start studying now.
