"Only after disaster can we be resurrected." -Tyler Durdan, Fight Club
"How are you coping, Detective?"
27-year-old Anna Morasca looks up from the bookshelf she's been rearranging during their therapy session to blink. "I'm sorry? Coping?"
"Yesterday was your birthday, and the tenth anniversary of your rape, Anna."
She shudders and inhales sharply, hoping this wouldn't come up but knowing better than to expect her shrink to let it slide. "I'm fine, Doc."
"Anna, the point of therapy is to address these issues so you can move forward in your life."
"I spent all day yesterday locked up in my apartment crying like a little girl and I took five showers. Happy?"
"You were hurting, and you had that right to be. It was very traumatic and very painful."
"I let out the hurt yesterday, and today? I am fine." She shrugged and ran a hand over the shelf as she sighed. "I bounce back after these things. I am like a phoenix. I always rise from my ashes. It makes me stronger."
