Very often in fics and roleplay, scent is overlooked. So tell us, in your muse’s world, what are some scents that they like, encounter or even have? How does your muse smell? How does their home smell? What scents do they find comforting or disturbing? Is there a scent that can trigger a reaction in your muse?
Anna is one of the kinds of people who takes in every smell. Some research out there suggests that rape victims are more attuned to smell than other people - a byproduct of their becoming highly aware of their environment after their attack - and Anna is one of those people.
In her everyday life, Anna encounters smells of the city - especially since she lives in Midtown - and almost likes what she calls "the fine odor of pollution". She is incredibly familiar with the smell of blood - partly from it being imprinted in her senses from her rape, and partly because of her job. She can often tell how long a body's been decomposing by the scent and looking at it.
Anna herself has a soft, gentle smell of lavender and jasmine - sometimes cherry blossoms, depending on what body wash she uses. She doesn't wear perfume often, which will surprise people. Her apartment will smell differently, depending on her mood. She has an affinity for aromatherapy, and will utilize certain types of incense and oils for different moods and ailments. Eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender are among her favorites.
Since Anna is highly attuned to smell, and scent is considered one of the most prominent memory triggers -- there are several that can get a reaction out of her. For a while, the scent of blood was enough to trigger flashbacks to her rape, but since she's become accustomed to the smell, it fails to trigger. In blood's place, cheap alcohol combined with cigarettes and sweat will instantly take her back to when she was 17. The smell of cannoli or any other Italian dish, along with cinnamon, will bring back comforting memories of time with her mother as a child. As such, she spends a lot of time around Italian food when she feels stressed or upset.
