I thought the slow-motion "We are in our nightclothes because it's more romantic even though we could get stoned for it" mist scene of P&P was more soul destroying. But then, I've only seen it once...

I dunno... views towards sex in general are very mixed over here. British people traditionally have more of a handshake thing going, but we're all pretending to be American at the moment so we've adopted the slow-mo romantic kiss thing. Italians, and French, and lots of other Europeans are really open minded about sex... a film with a blatant sex scene won't get the high censor rating it would in America, but a film with violence in it tends to get a MUCH higher rating. Europeans reckon romance is natural and beautiful, but violence is not at all entertaining.

There's a few films that sorta support this... the French film "Amelie" has a pretty low rating in France even though it has quite a graphic sex scene, here in Britain it's a mark up, and in America it's an even higher rating. However most of the war films made in America get higher ratings here in Europe.
