I'm finally getting to the end of the chores and paperwork (i.e. quotes for the items that Pickfords dropped!)so soon might be able to get out and see some of the reef and more of the local area. We are pretty close to a place called Charters Towers where you can still go gold panning.
I've never had an awful amount of patience with learning how to do things from first principle (as you probably all know!) so I expect to find a gold nugget in my first half an hour or so of trying, or management will be informed!
To quote Pulp Fiction - it's the small differences that you notice the most.... Like the fact that the main toilet in our house has this freakish ginormous extractor fan in the ceiling... ? Frankly I would be terrified of ending up stuck to the roof - it's the size of a Boeing engine. And yes, while there is one in the en-suite too, at least there is a shower there so you can claim it's for steam! (Not that you want a hot shower here though!)
The celery is never crisp - why I don't know, as other salad like lettuce etc all does ok in the heat - and the eggs.... well.... perhaps English hens just try harder but what they describe as an "extra-large" egg over here is rather underwhelming. (Maybe living through cold winters leads to a higher avian pain threshold or something?)
But all in all - still loving it and still very glad we made the move.
Still enjoying being the housewife for the minute - but can't properly enjoy it on someone else's cash, despite putting all my UK savings into the account. I feel guilty buying myself anything. (So I don't - I bought a coffee the other morning (from the drive through of course!) and felt awful!!! $4 of awful....!)
Phill tells me not to be ridiculous though which is a relief, and I as I have time, I am rediscovering my recipe books - so....let the indigestion begin!
