Vividcon Auction 2016: the vidders!

Mar 21, 2016 09:59

And now, here's the list of vidders who'll be participating in the upcoming Vividcon Vidder Auction! Six vidders are ready to put their skills to work with and for you!

The auction starts this Saturday March 26, and ends at 11:59pm US eastern time on Saturday April 2. (A link to the auction form will be provided on opening day.)

Alphabetically, your vidders are:

1. BANBURY MCBURG

Email: mcburg@gmail.com

My name is Banbury on LJ (http://banbury.livejournal.com/) and DW (http://banbury.dreamwidth.org/)

I post my vids as banbury (mainly slash) at http://www.youtube.com/user/macburg and McBurg (gen) at http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMcburg (Some time ago I discovered that some of my vids had been taken down by YouTube because of music, so I'm in the process of finding the other way to post it all)

I'd be very glad to make vids in following fandoms: NCIS, The Sentinel, Highlander, Supernatural, Castle, Professionals, Star Trek (new edition), Dark Angel, The Fast and Furious franchise, Donald Strachey Mysteries, Harry Potter, Hobbit, Nash Bridges and various films like 'How to steal a million', 'Roman Holiday', 'Pride and Prejudice' (I prefer the version with Laurence Olivier, but I like almost all Jane Austen's screen versions, so it's all discussable), Avengers, musicals, detective stories... - actually I can discuss any ideas and any films, I just like to make video stories :-) What I don't like - horror films and really dark stories.

As to the music - I like all kinds of music, maybe except heavy metal and country/folk (at least not so much).

2. BIRONIC

EMAIL: closet dot fangirl at gmail dot com
VIDS: indexed at the AO3
JOURNAL: http://bironic.dreamwidth.org and http://bironic.livejournal.com

Basically, we should be good if you like some of the stuff I've made before! I enjoy humorous and dark and celebratory and kinky, reading against the grain, summarizing the joy of small-fandom sources, focusing on characters or subtextual relationships or making a general argument, etc. Unironic fluff about canonical ships is tougher.

Below is my best guess at how we can have the most successful partnership, but since I haven't done a collaborative vid to order before, we may be learning together. Above all, this should be fun for everyone involved.

SOURCES

TV: Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Stargate: Atlantis, Roar.

Movie series: Harry Potter, Star Trek before the reboots (especially 2/4/7)

Individual movies: I'm a big movie fan and am open to lots of possibilities. That said, it would be safest for both of us if before you bid you could run anything by me that's not on this list. In general: If it's science fiction or if it has vampires in it, chances are good. Another "yes" is movies that involve Paul Bettany, Vin Diesel, Sarah Polley, mid-career Jeff Goldblum, Alexander Siddig, Vincent Perez or Thomas Kretschmann. You can browse stuff I've loved (& not loved) in the last few years at my movie reviews tag -- maybe you'll spot your fave(s) there, including many non-English-language films. Also, here is a random sampling of DVDs I own in case it's helpful: Queen of the Damned, Bride of Frankenstein, Little Women, Care Bears Movie II, Dark City, Inkheart, Inception, Priest (the one with Linus Roache), Stargate, Farewell My Concubine, Queen Margot.

I'm also a casual fan of ballet and Irish dance, and it could be interesting to try to vid a performance or a ballet-themed movie if you're into that. Or if you happen to share my fondness for David Hallberg, let's make a beautiful long-legged vid together!

I am willing to consider incorporating more than one source into the vid, but let's make sure the scope is manageable within the given time frame.

MUSIC

Sometimes a song idea strikes right away for a source or prompt, but just as often it doesn't, so it'd be great if you have music in mind. If not, though, we'll figure it out. My favorite genres to vid are folk, rock, indie, pop, dance, "world" music, and classical/instrumental (particularly piano), but I am open to more. I have strong reactions to particular artists and genres but it's hard to articulate so please be willing to negotiate alternatives if your number-one choice hits one of my "eek, no" buttons. I will of course extend the same courtesy to you!

Also please be aware that I tend to vid in the "make your point and get out" style, which often means trimming songs.

tl;dr My goal is for us to agree on a song that makes you happy, that I can live with for hours and hours while editing, and that works for the vid.

EXISTING IDEAS

Here are vid bunnies I haven't had the opportunity to make yet, in case our interests intersect on something:

- Jesse Stone movies - Jesse character study
- Ferngully: The Last Rainforest - Chrysta's blossoming
- Let the Right One In - spooky Eli portrait
- Kill Your Darlings (the one with Alexander Skarsgard, not the one with Daniel Radcliffe) kink vid - still searching for a song
- A vid about Grim Reapers
- Automata - Antonio Banderas being emo

3. ELIPIE

Vid Masterlist: https://elipie.dreamwidth.org/179194.html
E-mail: Please contact me through LJ/DW messaging

General:
My vidding style is usually fun and celebratory of the source, and my most popular vids tend to focus on ships, BFFs, or ensembles. That said, I'm not at all limited to just those things (as you will see in my fandom offerings)! I am willing to go anywhere from rainbows and bubblegum to the deepest pits of hell with you. You can be as hands-on or hands-off the vidding process as you want to be -- my only requirement in that regard is that we both must agree on the song choice.

Limitations:
I'm not your girl if you want something super flashy. While I can cut pretty fast when I want to, I'm pretty low-key when it comes to effects and mostly do straight cuts or creatively reuse in-source transitions. As far as content goes, I'll do anything, as long as it doesn't promote racism or sexism in a positive light.

Music:
I usually vid to pop, alt, or 90s music, but if you have something different or specific you'd like to throw at me, I'm absolutely open to most genres. If you DO have a specific song in mind, please talk to me before bidding so I can tell you if I think it's something I can do or not. I will not use source dialogue in the audio, BUT I am open to possibly using spoken-word or another unconventional audio source if you run it by me before bidding.

Fandoms:

TV: The Flash, Shadowhunters, Legends of Tomorrow, Daredevil, Bates Motel, Merlin, Fresh Off The Boat, Black-ish, The Family, Mr. Robot. Check with me for anything else - I might be open to it if I've seen it.

Movie franchises: Harry Potter, MCU, any of the live action Spider-Man movies (new and old), Back to the Future

Other movies: Please talk to me before bidding -- I'm open to a lot, but I don't want to list every movie I've ever seen

4. FRANZESKA

Email: fdickson@ix.netcom.com

My vids (archive-locked): http://archiveofourown.org/works?utf8=%E2%9C%93&commit=Sort+and+Filter&work_search%5Bsort_column%5D=revised_at&work_search%5Bother_tag_names%5D=Video&work_search%5Bquery%5D=&work_search%5Blanguage_id%5D=&work_search%5Bcomplete%5D=0&user_id=Franzeska

Fandoms:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Drive, Mojave (yes, really), anything else Oscar Isaac has been in, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Movie or TV), Veritas: The Quest, Miami Vice, Night Watch/Day Watch, Penny Dreadful, Crimson Peak, Crash (1996 film), Cruising, any other dark and sex-filled arty movies, any classic movie with homoerotic subtext, other films and TV by prior arrangement

What I will vid:

I would prefer it if you have either a song idea or a clear vidbunny already (even if it's just "A ship vid for X & Y").

I love constructed reality and using footage of actors from other sources. Crazy, "too demanding" vidbunnies are fine. Vidbunnies for characters with almost no footage are fine. That vidbunny you're too embarrassed to tell anybody is fine: Nothing is too kinky or tasteless for me. I like shippy vids and kink and visual spectacle. I also love humor and vids that are totally over-the-top with a totally straight face. I also have a parody song about m/m/f threesomes in Paris looking for a fandom.

What I won't vid:

Serious, non-kinky, non-fucked up gen unless it's purely about visual spectacle, cute fluff, Kylo or Hux-centric vids (unless you have a great LKBV idea), non-TFA-centric Star Wars, Gaby/Illya (unless it's part of Gaby/Illya/Napoleon), Driver/Irene (unless it's part of Driver/Irene/Standard), Crockett/Castillo (unless you discuss the vidbunny with me first and it inspires me)

5. GHOST LINGERING

Link to my vids: http://ghost-lingering.dreamwidth.org/123974.html#cutid1
E-mail: ghost [dot] lingering [at] gmail [dot] com

Here goes nothing: I'll make you a vid that is at least one minute in length for the Festivids-eligible fandom of your dreams, even if I am not familiar with it, provided you meet my rather idiosyncratic requirements (please read carefully!):

1. See above, must be Festivids-eligible. (http://www.festivids.net/faq)

2. You must give me requests for at least three different fandoms, in case something winds up being a no-go.

3. The requested fandoms must fall into one of the following categories:

a. a still image fandom that is 100 pages or less; you must provide me with viddable source. I would prefer tifs that are at least 300 dpi. If it is originally in a language other than English you must provide translations.

b. an audio fandom that is 60 minutes or less and that is not music; you must provide me with the source and time-stamped English translations if the source is in a language other than English or is hard to understand; this will likely wind up being weird & experimental, FYI.

c. a traditional video fandom that is 7 hours or less, closed canon, and NOT made in the US or UK or by a US or UK company; you must provide viddable source and, if it is in a language other than English, English soft subs. I would prefer mov files that are Apple Prores 422 or Avid DNxHD.

4. Because I'm likely going into these fandoms sight unseen, I have some hard limits. I won't vid anything with the following: sexual abuse/violence, domestic abuse, rape, incest, abuse of children, suicide, mental health shit, mind fuckery, visuals that will cause me to get motion sick or get migraines (feel free to send me a clip if you're unsure), spiders and centipedes, and anything dealing with personal assistant apps on smartphones.

Beyond canon constraints, there are some things that I won't do, such as make a pairing vid for an adult and someone underage. If you want something you think I might not be down for, check with me first. I can't give you a list right now - you very well might think of something that I'm not comfortable with that I wouldn't have thought of myself. I am sometimes queasy about horror and gore, so definitely check in with me if you want something in that vein.

I may also ask you to spoil the fandoms that you give me; I need you to be ok with that!

5. If you have a fandom that sort of, but not really, conforms to these rules, ping me and see if I will accept. Maybe it is a slightly longer than my requirements. Or it is too big to be eligible for Festivids. Or it is a non-traditional fandom that is not a still image fandom or an audio fandom. Or there is a three second shot of a spider that can definitely be skipped over. Will I be ok with these things? Who knows?! But ask away!

FYI, if your question is "Will you make a srs bns Hobbit/LotR history of the One Ring vid to Ring of Fire?" then the answer is yes, yes definitely. Other possible, though not guaranteed, exceptions: Orphan Black, Saga, Mad Max: Fury Road, a vid about Steve Rogers listening to Dick Tracy in B Flat though I have no idea how that could even be made into a vid so maybe not, and kdramas shorter than 20 hours.

6. You will need to get me the source for all the fandoms requested within 48 hours of winning. I can't do torrents.

Other things:

Even if you think your fandoms do meet all the requirements, I'd love a heads up for what you're thinking of so that I can brace myself for whatever I'm about to get thrown into and let you know in advance what's likely to click best.

While this isn't a requirement, let it be known that my preference is for fandoms that are about likable characters and that have a number of awesome women. I really like friendship, food, fantasy/sf, visually awesome stuff, animation, wacky hijinks, and awesome world-building.

With respect to vidding style: I'm best at character studies, weird audio choices, weird high concept ideas, and vids about women. Right now I'm most excited about vidding comics. I'm less great at shippy, alternate universe/constructed reality, comedy, and effects. I'm probably not the girl for you if you want a funny slash vid, is what I'm saying.

I'm game for whatever level of collaboration you want, but since I probably will have no idea what the fandom is about I'd actually prefer for you to have ~ideas~ for me to go off of and for you to be more involved.

As for songs/audio for the vid, I'm of the opinion that all parties involved should get veto power, but I'll try to be as flexible as possible. I'd actually prefer getting audio suggestions since, see above, I will likely be going in sight unseen. Also, if you don't give me audio suggestions, I'll probably try to vid to, idek, whale songs played backwards over ASMR YouTube videos. If that's your jam, well. Definitely we're a match made in fannish heaven.

6. TRELKEZ

Email: greensilver@gmail.com
Online: Trelkez on Tumblr, Twitter, LJ, DW
Vids: https://m.youtube.com/user/trelkez

Movies: Harry Potter, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, X-Men, probably most other fannish movie sources on request (check first if not on that list)

TV: Coffee Prince, Doctor Who (New Who only, and not Ten/Rose), due South (seasons 1 & 2), You're Beautiful

I will tentatively put forward Highlander, Merlin, The Sentinel, and The West Wing as possibilities, but my ability to pull those off would depend very much on the idea, so please contact me before bidding if you're interested in any of those sources.

Details: I want to be the "I'll vid anything!!" vidder, but the reality is that there are places my vidbrain just will not go. If you want to run an idea by me before you bid, please, please do. I will do my absolute best to fulfill your vid hopes/dreams, but if your hopes/dreams are Voldemort/Ginny to Set Fire to the Rain, I might actually cry, so checking first is always a plus.

I most often vid big emotion, easy breezy action-dancey, or quiet and contemplative. Character studies, pairing/OT3, ensembles, arc-focused stuff, any of that is fine. About the only things I definitely will not vid are character bashing, incest, or graphic rape (so Game of Thrones is probably out).

Music: I'm open to a variety of genres, and will do my best to vid whatever song is in your heart, but sometimes songs just don't work for whatever reason, so please have back-up songs in mind when you bid. If you don't have songs in mind and want me to pick something, or want to work with me to find a song, or would like to crack into my potential vid songs vault and see what shakes out, that's fine, too. For many of these sources (particularly HP) I already have vid ideas way down on a vid list somewhere, and I'm open to tossing those around if you have a character/arc/etc. in mind but not a concrete vid concept.

-----------------

Please spread this announcement far and wide, feel free to get together with like-minded friends to pool your bidding funds, and dream up the vids you'd love to see! \o/
