VividCon Progress Report

Jul 10, 2011 16:23

Hello from the Land of Llamas! I'm pleased to report that con preparations are progressing well, with vidshows assembled and being burned to DVD even as I write this. Schedules are scheduled, volunteers are volunteering, and concom are concomming their little hearts out, thank all the llamas!

Here, have a news update and recap to mark approximately one month to go before the con!
  • Attending registration is still open.
Attendance flirted briefly with the membership cap in May, but since then we've had quite a few cancellations, so there are still spaces available if you would like to attend but have not yet registered. Head on over to the VividCon Registration page to sign up.
  • The VividCon 2011 Schedule
The VividCon 2011 Schedule is available on our website!

Thursday night registration will run from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, in the 2nd floor mezzanine area as usual, with volunteer "reg runners" again facilitating "Accessible Registration" in the corner Comet Room during this time.

The "Welcome to VividCon" gathering on Thursday night at 9:00 p.m. in the corner Comet Room is a place for new attendees to come and learn a little about VividCon and what to expect, to meet some of their fellow attendees, and to ask any questions they might have. Experienced attendees also welcome!

First-time attendees may also be interested in reading a bit more about the con in the VividCon Background and Policies document we complied last year.
  • 2011 VividCon Scholarship
I'm sorry to report that none of the potential scholarship recipients that the concom selected are able to attend VividCon this year, citing timing conflicts as well as logistical and financial impediments.

We have decided to roll the scholarship funds over to 2012 and make a point to kick off the scholarship nomination and donation process and publicity a lot earlier for 2012 in hopes of generating additional contributions, gathering a greater number of nominations and giving selected nominee more lead time to consider travel arrangements.

To learn more about the scholarship program or to make a donation, check out the VividCon Scholarship page. Donations are welcome at any time.
  • Academic research at VividCon
University of California at Irvine graduate student Sam(antha) Close is researching fan video-making and will be attending VividCon this year. She hopes to arrange individual, private interviews with attendees during the con weekend. Please see her call for participants and consider whether you would be willing to be interviewed. She will also be attending Anime Expo to interview AMV makers there.
