Behold the Power of Cheese!!

Jimmy had his pinewood derby race today with Papoose. His entry was the very cleverly designed Cheesemobile!

To race in the pinewood derby, you and your child (often more the dads than the kids) design and carve a race car out of a block of pine. Or, for the more artistic among you, release the race care from the block of pine in which it is hidden. Either way, most of my tools are still packed somewhere from the move and that includes any saws I have so this design didn't use too much cutting. We sanded off the rough edges, dug a divot in the top where the mouse is eating, made some cheese-like holes, tossed on a few coats of paint and glitter, glued on wheels and a mouse and let it fly.

Off to the races! Our car is on the far left in this round. We raced four heats and came in second three times and fourth once (when our car got stuck in the gate).

Jimmy is very proud of his trophy and he should be. He really worked on every aspect of his car this year. He helped on every step from sanding all the way to gluing on the mouse.

Here are all the kids with their trophies.

Oddly, Kim du Toit, one of my favorite bloggers, posted an article on cheese this morning before the race.
