Violent Lives Ending Violently

So...

I have just discovered (well, I had heard of it briefly before) this wonderfully written graphic novel entitled "Watchmen". Now, I typically don't like graphic novels; I usually prefer big monsters of books like Les Miserables and The Brothers Karamazov.
But Watchmen just seems to encompass all of the themes that those big books do too. There is the running theme of the-world-as-we-know-it-is-about-to-end. Also, Richard Nixon is in office for WAY longer than he should be.
But the characters are perfectly written. I'm in love with Rorschach, as pyschopathic and just nuts as he is. It would be wonderful to do a character study on him. His story of poor Blair Roche is horrific, and you can just feel the pain that it causes him. Nite Owl II is also a great character, and I think he speaks out to the geek in all of us. Adrien Veidt is a good non-villain as well, and I daresay that Niccolo Machiavelli would have loved to have met him, for he is the perfect Prince in Machiavellen terms.
This graphic novel touches on everything from Objectivism to World War III to jokes that aren't funny to Coke in green glass bottles...
It's definitely worth a read, and I hear the movie's good too. Jackie Earle Haley's Rorschach, so...that makes me happy.

Sugar cube and beans, anyone?

jeh!, rantyrantyrant
