As always, this and more at www.outtabubblegum.blogspot.com
Lee and I haven’t had much time together lately, and he was in Chicago last weekend so we were excited for this weekend. My dad has been in Houston for work and he flew into the Madison Airport Friday night. His plan to get back to Fond du Lac was to take one of our 2 cars, which we have not been able to renew the plates for yet (we’re broke). He said he didn’t care and he was sure he wouldn’t get stopped.
My dad complained to us that he had to pay over a hundred bucks at the airport to ship another bag to him in Fond du Lac, since he had too much stuff coming back from Houston. That’s why I was surprised to see
him pull out plastic bag after plastic bag of stuff for me and lee out of his luggage: the bag of bags of decaf coffee (he had been at a hotel for weeks), bag of regular bags of coffee, bag of perfume samples (I hate perfume and it gives me migraines), bag of soap, bag of shampoo and conditioner bottles, bag of apples and gooey bananas, bag of hot chocolate and tea packets, bag of rolls of TP, and bag of napkins. All of these bags contained tons of each item.
We were all starving around 7:30 and were going to get food. Lee got in our Olds and dad and I got in the other car so that he could leave straight from the restaurant. However, as soon as we started to drive to go eat we got a flat tire in the car that has expired plates. So we pulled it into a service shop, left the car there, and drove with lee to get food. I was willing to put on the spare, but my dad decided it was too cold and he was too hungry so we should just get food.
We went to Pizzeria Uno and I told my dad I would drive him to Fond du Lac and take care of the car myself when I got back on Saturday. I warned him, however, that the Olds is still having problems even after the many recent times we’ve taken it in for new parts. It has trouble starting sometimes, and will stall occasionally when we are at a light. Sure enough, we go to leave the pizza place and the car wont start. It comes close over and over, but not quite. Finally, it goes and we go to Walgreens on the capitol square I run in and buy fuel injector stuff, add it, get more gas, pack up our stuff, say goodbye to Pushkin and hit the road. My dad slept, lee drives as my migraine and dizziness made me a safety hazzard. I actually don’t mind driving on long trips because I get less car sick that way for some reason.
We found a tire that should work for the car. I came back to madison saturday afternoon and dropped off the keys to the station and asked them to put it on on Monday morning when they open, as long as I’m ok with the price. My dad let me borrow some cash to take to the DMV on Monday, since I did get a $50 ticket for the plates.
Now I must point out that my dad stresses me out more than anyone I’ve ever met. He is a little crazy and this weekend was rough. Yet, Saturday night rocked. Lee and I went to eat and had great service and got really drunk in the cold of the night and watched In the Heat Of the Night and It’s A Wonderful Life. I really needed that experience. It was a night where everything went right and I felt really happy. And I had plenty of napkins to dry my tears with during IAWL.
