'Future 86' Producers Journal Entry #1

May 11, 2013 11:28

I recently saw a documentary called 'From Elway to Marino" It was about the 1983 NFL Draft that brought John Elway and Dan Marino to the NFL. The story was told by the agent to Marino and Elway he kept a journal about any event that happened from the QB's senior year till the day of the draft. so small things like "Spoke to _____ Team about salary negotiations" didn't mean much back then but 20 years later that one conversation was historic.

So I figure this film might be the same one day (or not). So why not keep a journal. For the memories.

The fundraising via IndieGoGo was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. We spent about 6 months setting it up and raised just under $4,700.

Then we got raped by fee's

-$425.70: Indiegogo platform fee (9.0%)
-$141.90: Payment processing fee (3%)

So how much are we left with?

$4,162.0

that is till our bank decided to add their own fee into it. The final number is around $3,900. Needless to say this isn't nearly enough to shoot a feature film. The good news is that Ronald and I work jobs were we make a large amount of money in a short period of time. So the Film budget is looking just fine. :)

The budget isn;t what we originally imagined but its still very doable. We did however have to re-edit the script with some last minute changes, to cut a few days off of our schedule and save some money.

The current task is to sign up a crew, the problem is we cant afford to pay someone just yet. we're promising a percentage of the final sale. Will this be enough though? I'm not sure.

I already have a good amount of friends who agreed to help. Kevin, Rodrigo, Roger, Akeem, John and Hugo. I'm not sure how many of those will be on set yet, but I know i'd love to work with every single one of them.

I also posted an ad on craigslist. Which led to Ronald and I meeting 1 crazy 50 year old filmmaker who would only join the team if he could be a D.P. We laughed, shook hands and left.

At the end of the day Craigslist wasn't a complete waste of time. We did get the opportunity to meet Bryan, an Anthropology student from FIU who LOVES movies, we met and starbucks and really hit it off. We love him and he seems to like the film so I believe a promising partnership has been made. Time will tell I guess.

We're set to shoot in August, and are consumed in pre-production till then. It's looking good though. I see a bright future ahead.
