The Failures Of The Modern Filmmaker

Sep 17, 2012 17:58

As the few of you who read this probably know, i'm producing a feature film. "Future 86"

The film has a great script, a great director, great producer, great potential. It has everything but the funds to put it together.

No Money = No Movie

So i've been spending the past month working on a plan to raise money for the film. Ofcourse the first thing we're going to do is crowdfunding, making a Kickstarter like so many wannabe filmmakers have done lately. But every day it just seems more and more impossible.

I mean honestly how many people do I know that would donate money to me? 20 maybe 30 AT ABSOLUTE MOST...not only but chances are high those 30 people are dead broke. So lets say each of them gives us 30 bucks...thats $150 of the $15,000 we need...thats nothing...I can't shoot anything with that....

I'm currently busting my butt to make a video that sticks out. Its all we got going for us. It's that 5 minute video people watch and judge whether they'll give you any money at all.

so the only chance we have at making any money whats so ever is to make an AMAZING video.

But is the time i'm spending on this worth the possible outcome? I'm having hour long photo shoots with about 15 people.

Thats 15 hours

Driving back and forth to each house is about an hour

Thats 15 hours

I spend an hour planning each shoot and a few hours scheduling it all

Thats 20 hours

thats 50 hours of work. IIf i spent those 50 hours at work (at $15 an hour) thats $750 that i could use for the money...way more than the $150 i'm estimating...is any of this worth it or will we fail horribly

future 86, life, art, feature, stress, film, money
