And I'm back!
The trip had it's bumps. First, the rental car company required an additional deposit I wasn't aware of, but both our banks were closed. It was almost two hours before we got the whole thing straightened out and we were on our way. When we arrived at the hotel, it was immediately clear it wasn't a good fit for us. Though reasonably priced, we didn't feel safe or comfortable, which really put a damper on our first few days in Portland. By Sunday night I had booked us a new hotel, and despite tacking on an additional three hours to our drive, our trip ran smoothly thereafter.
I really enjoyed Oregon, honestly. The west side is really beautiful, and I fell in love with the Columbia River. It was comforting, in a way, to always have it lurking nearby. And of course, I could have stayed out on the beaches forever and ever. Portland wasn't bad either, though I realized I don't think I could ever live in a "big" city. They stress me out too much. Seeing sea lions and starfish, and getting to experience waterfalls and crazy fog made up for it, though. All in all, it was a great trip, and I'm glad we went. :)
A picture post or two is coming, but it's going to take me a bit because there are hundreds of pictures!
