January is flying by, yikes. I'm getting closer and closer to my trip to South Africa, which is a good thing. Work is going pretty well. I like it a lot actually. I have a lot of flexibility and it's not too much stress. The money is decent, so I'm happy. What I really like is being back in the City. I get to see all my friends all the time, and hang out and do New York things, which I've missed a lot. And I've noticed that being back in the City with no school to worry about is wonderful! I can just play around, without having to think about homework and classes. This of course will change when I get back into school, but for now it's a good time. I am thinking of doing a 1-year interdisciplinary master's program in Latin American/Caribbean/Cuban Studies before beginning my PhD. The nice thing about doing the master's is that it wouldn't set me back any time for beginning my PhD because I would still be able to begin my PhD in Fall '06 as planned, 'cause the master's would be over in Spring '06. I don't know yet though, I have a lot of options, and I'm not sure which is best for me (and the master's program is abroad, so that's another factor). So, that's basically what's been happening with me over the last few days- nothing too exciting, but over all pretty good. I saw the movie Hotel Rwanda. Wow, I highly recommend it. It was wonderful- so educational, so important. I thought it was really interesting, but also really devastating. I might try to see it again while it's still in theaters just to soak it all up. There are actually a lot of movies I want to see though, which is another awesome thing about being back in the City- I can go to a movie every night of the week! The neighborhood I work in in Manhattan is one with which I was not previously familiar, but now absolutely adore! It is so great there. It's a little community within a huge city. It is extremely diverse in all senses of the word, and there is so much to do and see. I am really liking it. The people I work for are also really sweet, so I lucked out with these jobs. All right, I'm beginning to repeat here, so I'll talk to you later. "Hasta la Victoria Siempre!"
