I'm suddenly feeling enthused all over again about the prospect of Teach for America. How bizarre, right? Oh well. I suddenly really like the idea of teaching French. For some reason that scares me less than the idea of teaching English. I don't know why. I fluctuate. Sometimes one excites me, sometimes the other.
I have my first day of work at the Kitchen Sink Press tomorrow. I just made myself a delicious bagged lunch, and it's healthy to boot. This may be a sign I'm growing old. I made tuna salad (with light mayo, oh god the crimes!) with diced up shallots in it and lots of pepper and a little sea salt. Very simple, but truly delicious. I put it in a tupperware, then put that in a bag with a bagel and a bottle of fusion green/white iced tea (no sweetener! no high fructose corn syrup! no fucking splenda!). I am truly enthused about going to work tomorrow just because my lunch is going to be so delicious and satisfying. My fingers still smell faintly of shallots and I find this satisfying. Cooking is satisfying for me. I bought meat and veggies to cook up on Thursday (so I can use the leftovers as tupperware lunch for work on Friday) and I'm content. I'm going to make sure that I cook real food (not canned soup, not mac 'n' cheese from a box, even Annie's) at least once to twice a week, and all of my lunches will be real food, even it's just sandwich makings with a bagel like tomorrow will be. I can take a large degree of responsibility for my weight gain since returning from Paris when one takes into consideration how incredibly healthy I was there. Using my wits and instincts to make myself a delicious and satisfying meal makes me happier than I tend to realize until it's happening.
I'm re-reading The Belgariad and enjoying every second of it. To the point of shunting aside schoolwork for it. I love a good fantasy or sci-fi romp. Which brings forward this issue--I need fresh reading material, outside of my class readings. So, we all know I enjoy Eddings, but my favorites of late are definitely Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time and the fabulousness of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. So, anyone got any recommendations? I'm looking into the Kushiel books by Jacqueline Carey as I hear good things (I believe Kara loves those, yes?) and I am also looking into Guy Gavriel Kay books, as Kelly thinks highly of those. If anyone would like to throw out recommendations of other books, based on what I like or what you like, please do. I want books!
I should be going to sleep. But I prefer being a bum. :P
