photography books

Highly recommend the books from the Thames and Hudson photofile. I already bought one on Elliot Erwitt and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

If you learned the basics  of using an slr camera (ie you know how to operate it in manual mode) these books are as good a manual on photography as you can get.
Can be had for about 5 pounds each from amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=photofile&x=0&y=0

I've bought a lot of contemporary books on photography and didn't like any of them. Waste of money and paper.
