I... have two very close friends. I would not want to hurt either of them. One has... told me he has loved me for many years... and he thinks that the other is in love with me as well.

... I care for them both very much. But... I am not in love with one of them.

The one... who confessed that he was in love with me... But... they are both very, very important to me. More important than anything else.

You aren't in love with someone but still care about them deeply. And you're worried that they might love you.

...

In a situation like this, you're going to have to talk with them. Both of them. But make sure it's one at a time.

However if they do love you or even just care a great deal about you they're going to want you to be happy. No matter which one of them you love more. So if you do hurt them by your actions, they'll forgive you because they're your friends.

And most of all, you shouldn't feel guilty or bad because of this.
