Last month I got to see "Repo! The Genetic Opera" as part of the Repo Road tour. I didn't get to do the costume I really wanted then (due to time constraints). This month the film's director Darren Bousman, and co-creator/"Graverobber Terrance Zdunich writer, did another road tour with a stop in Foxboro, MA on Thursday.
Thanks to
gaudess, I had my "Rotti Largo" costume ready for this show.
lavender and Aurora were costumed as Rotti's "Henchgirls". gaudess was "Blind Mag",
silentbob11378 was the "Repo Man", gaudess' sister was "Shilo" and David was an original character, GeneCo surGEN, Dr. Shaw.
I walked into the theater and got an immediate reaction. Darren Bousman and Terrance Zdunich started taking pics of me and commenting on how much they loved the costume. Actual comments: "this has to be one of the best Rotti costumes we've seen", "I wish Paul Sorvino were here to see this". (For the uninitiated, Paul Sorvino plays Rotti Largo in the movie.) My inner fanboy was/is weeping with joy.
I had a good time mingling with other costumed and non-costumed fans before the show started. They held a costume contest before the show and I got to belt out some of "Gold" in front of 300+ people, which was a blast. (I did not win but had fun anyway.)
The crowd was even more enthusiastic than the crowd last month and far more people in costume this time out. gaudess (along with her sister and RKO Army's Amanda) shadowed "Chase the Morning" which was well received by the audience.
I stayed until the very end and got to speak with Darren, Terrance and the film's star, Alexa Vega. Also, got pics taken with all three. Darren and Terrance surprised me by giving me a signed tour poster as a prize for my Rotti costume. (Again my inner fanboy was/is weeping with joy!)
An awesome night to be sure. Definitely worth braving the freezing cold to get to the theater.
Last night, David and I went to see Repo! at the Avon in Providence, RI. This was a very different experience. The mostly neutral crowd was small (maybe 30 people) and many were not sure what to make of it when the film ended. I spoke with the manager and explained that this movie has been getting by largely on word-of-mouth; so many folks might not have heard it was playing at the Avon until too late. Also, I suspect many are planning to go Saturday night instead. We'll see if I am right.
