As of November, 2007, the
Sound Consensus project is in it's 18th month of hiatus. The reason for this is basically as follows: too much to do + not enough time = stressful, hectic lifestyle.
Sound Consensus began as my final project for an interactive media class that I took at
Maryland Institute College of Art in the spring of 2006. The project didn't reach a level of completion that I found satisfying before the academic deadline, so I ended up turning in an "incomplete" version of it. Despite this, however, the piece was praised by my professor and my peers for its slick design aesthetic as well as its potential to become a niche publication and/or community building tool. (I remember one of the students comparing it to
last.fm, a site I started using several months after the semester ended.)
August 2007 marked the end of an emotionally draining summer that I should have spent creating and distributing the complete version of Sound Consensus that I promised to its contributors. In the following semester, which was my last and final, I completed my thesis project, Typology of Disposable Whites, which is still the most ambitious and emotionally involved creative endeavor of my entire life.
After participating in an exhibit that showcased all the thesis projects of the 2007
Memphis College of Art graduates, I officially earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design Arts. Days later, my unpaid internship upgraded to a paid, part-time position, which I supplement with an additional part-time retail job. Although I have a full-time schedule, I do still have enough free time to read, rest, and of course listen to tons of music. I'm working on a design for my own personal website, and I have a collaborative web-based project in the works as well. For the time being, Sound Consensus is on the back burner - but it's still brewing!
To the Sound Consensus contributors: in addition to offering my sincerest apology, I'd like to reassure you all that you have been in my thoughts and I do still plan to create for you (and others) a visually and mentally stimulating print and/or web version of the all data I collected. Thank you so much for all your help. Feel free to forward any questions, comments, complaints & concerns you have to soundconsensus@gmail.com.
I'll update you on my progress as it develops. Take care of yourselves.
