Perhaps more appropriately, the gods of the island.

What do they have to gain from wiping my memory clean and pulling me here? Am I going to be sacrificed or what? Because damn it, if I am, I'm not going down without a fight!

Hmph. You humans are capable of coming to the most irrational conclusions. The gods have never condoned human sacrifice; it's a ritual that the most barbaric among you must have imagined at some point in time in some vague attempt at instilling fear in their enemies. I fail to see how eating hearts or burning corpses could possibly be appealing to any sane human, let alone a god.

Regardless, the only point in coming here, it seems, is to reside until such time as you have gained all your memories back. No one has managed to achieve it yet.

Hey, hey, hey! How am I supposed to know that?! It's not like I've met a god before. Not that I can remember, anyway.

And that's even dumber than bringing me here as a sacrifice. What's the point of wiping my memories clean in the first place, then? And how do you even know all this?

. . . *sigh*

Everyone who is brought here is relieved of their memories. As time passes, however, the island sees fit to inflict certain traumatic events upon us -- These are usually accompanied by a gain of memory. Until then, you stay in the apartments and carry out your life as usual.

Yeah, I believe we've already established that. But why bring us here and take away our own memories just so we can try to regain them again? What's the point? What, do the gods get a chuckle out of seeing amnesiacs wander about aimlessly?
