Bonded - Notes - WIP
Bonded are a selective race of creatures in Aquavitae, possessing fearsome powers which can be used as weapons by the human counterparts they're joined with.
Eggs
Bonded Eggs form where the chaotic energy of the planet's core leaks to the surface; the strongest concentrations of these energy fissures can even produce multiple eggs in the same location, such as in the forests of Amarcord -- the same energy that spawned the Forest Fairies also created multiple eggs. The eggs solidify around a kernal of energy and, once the formation is complete, that energy transforms into a living animal. Regardless of their species, all Bonded are born from these eggs. The animals inside of the egg during this period are not yet considered sentient and possess only the basic instincts for whatever species they are. Should the egg be induced into hatching through exposure to strong energy, they will hatch prematurely and be completely reliant on humans for their care, as they wouldn't likely be accepted by their native species. As the egg continues to develop a name and crown shape becomes clearly imprinted on the surface; at this point the animal inside gains a human-equivalent sentience and awareness of both their identity and a basic understanding of their need to locate and connect with a human partner. Prior to hatching, Bonded are semi-aware of their surroundings and exist in a state they have likened to dreaming. They may drift through periods of awareness and have the ability to speak through their eggs.
