Kahlua was rubbing her eyes sleepily as she padded barefoot down the cool stone hallway. Something had woken her up and she couldn't identify it, whether it had been a dream or a noise. But over the years it was not unusual for her to slip into her brother's room when she was feeling scared; but she also liked pouncing him awake as well.

Marc had been up early that morning, although he didn't head out yet, knowing that it was much too soon for breakfast. He'd fallen asleep while reading a book and he was back to reading it again when he heard the door of his room open. He turned to see who it was, smiling and putting away the book when he saw his little sister enter.

"Hey," he started, moving to give Kahlua a hug. "You're up early."

Kahula smiled, still drowsy despite her trip from her own room. "Something woke me up, big brother," she pouted, but gladly accepted the hug. She looked at the book he held. "You're just like daddy, always getting up really early to do boring work."

Marc had to chuckle. "Not as boring as you make it sound. And it's not work, I'm just reading." He sat down on the bed and motioned for her to do the same, frowning a little. "Did you have a bad dream?"

Kahlua clambered onto his bed and snuggled up next to him. "I don't know," she said. "I don't remember what it was about. I just woke up and it was like... something had happened, but I didn't know what."

Then, because she didn't want him to be worried, she added, "I'm okay though! Just tired still..."

He put an arm around his sister's shoulders and pulled her close. "You can sleep here; it won't be breakfast for a while. And I'll watch you to make sure that nothing happens. Okay?"

Kahlua snuggled close. "Okay," she agreed. "Just for a little while, 'cause I want breakfast too!"

She didn't take long to burrow into the blankets and claim the pillow though. As she closed her eyes, she mumbled, "You're not boring. But can we do something fun today?"

Marc picked up his book again, but he was listening. "Sure. What do you want to do?"

Kahlua sighed. "I want to go shopping," she said. She was, after all, just a girl.

"Shopping?" Marc echoed. He tried to hide his face behind his book, not wanting Kahlua to see his expression; he was, after all, a boy and shopping really wasn't his cup of tea. But she was his sister, and, well... "Okay, sure thing."

Kahlua beamed, knowing that she was under the blankets and he couldn't see her grin. "I'll get you something really good!"

Marc chuckled. "You don't have to get me anything. I'll be happy to accompany you."

"But I want to get you something," Kahlua said sleepily. "'Cause you're the best big brother in the world..."

"Hmm. Come to think about it, a new book would be nice. Or a pair of shoes..."

He then laughed, lying down on the bed beside Kahlua and putting an arm around her, even though she was under the blankets. "I'm kidding. You really don't need to get me anything. Hearing you say that is more than enough for me, Kahlua."

Of course, that was what Kahlua was waiting for, and with Marc now in her grasp she decided to TICKLE TICKLE TICKLE!

Dang, he got beaten to it! But what could Marc do but tickle back?

"H-Hey, Kahlua, no fair!" he complained, but he was laughing.
