time to reflect.
since I make icons, i don't usually/ever post memes in my lj. but pixiegirl131415 just recently suggested one that's very related. i've only been posting icons for about seven months, but i think my work's improved enough that some reflection could be fun...
When did you first start iconing, and what was the first icontest you entered?
the first icon i have saved on my computer is from January 7th, 2008. the first icontest i entered is theatre_stills. It's still up and running, and I'm fairly certain always looking for new members.
Post one of your first or worst icons:
how is this icon bad? let me count the ways... the text placement is boring, i'm really not in love with the font (or the caption itself, for that matter), and the whole thing looks a teeny bit pixelated to me. that said, you have to start somewhere, right?
Post some of your favorite icons that you've made:
(i had the hardest time ever choosing these...)
What computer & graphics program do you use?
i use (and worship) GIMP v. 2.4.2
Iconmakers whose work you love?
there are very, very many people. three, however, whose work i turn to time and time again are
lucky_penny01,
all_at_once, and starsburn.
A trick or technique you use a lot?
i try not to use any technique too often- things get boring- but i find myself creating black and white icons, or partially black and white icons, more and more often.
A trend you hate?
honestly, i'm not a fan of using those crosshatching (x-shaped) brushes/textures to fill in extra space in the icon.
One of your favorite set of textures?
_iconographer's "life in technicolor" set.
An icontest you recommend:
pickmybest is a great opportunity to hear what other people think about your icons and just talk with other iconmakers. i'm also having a lot of fun at btvsats_rumbleright now. as i think pixiegirl131415said, it's a little less competetive than a lims contest, and it gives me an easy excuse to make whedonverse icons every week.
