Organic foods and small farms are in serious danger of becoming illegal!
This sounds like some awful dystopian science fiction but these things are actually in jeopardy!
Within the next few weeks the House and Senate will vote on bill HR 875 which is being called the Food Safety Act.
It is being introduced under the auspices of regulating foods against diseases but the language in the bill is VERY generic and under this bill the government has the potential right to fine and arrest you for even growing a garden for yourself in your own backyard if it doesn't meet certain specifications that include using fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
This is a very very real threat to local farms and organic foods! The bill is mainly backed by Monsanto, which in case you didn't know, is responsible for Bovine Growth Hormone (proven to cause cancer and illegal in Europe and Canada) and GMO corn (which overruns local farms, whose farmers in turn have time and time again been convicted of theft in courts for growing Monsanto brand corn which they didn't want poising their crops to begin with).
