This week at work has been interesting. Three people were fired, one of them being my good friend Jem. The other two were another designer, Daniel, and a content writer, Sam.
The official reason for all three was performance issues, but I think budget cuts had as much to do with it as anything else.
It's a shame to lose them, I liked Sam, Jem is a close friend of mine, and Daniel is a very skilled designer, but I also can't pretend this wasn't a long time coming. Sam's output was low, Jem had repeatedly been reprimanded for accounts coming back, and Daniel was notorious for scope creep and blown deadlines.
I just hope there isn't a second round of layoffs, but with the economy sinking like it is, it may come. I'll just have to make sure I outperform those around me and don't get cut if it happens again.
