Yesterday I finally watched “Black & White Episdoe 1: The Dawn of Assault (痞子英雄首部曲：全面開戰)!!! :D
Really enjoyed and liked this movie! Very funny but also lots of action, a little romance, and of course: police/detective story.
(some stunts reminded me a bit of “Mission Impossible” stunts, haha, meaning, they seemed too impossible to be true! XD)
Just like the “Black & White” (痞子英雄) drama (DVD), this movie comes with English and Chinese/Mandarin subtitle. Sometimes ppl in the movie have been talking in English though. (but even the foreigners (!!) in this movie all knew at least a little Mandarin. XD Funny thing was, the Taiwanese (?) bad guy in the airplane was talking in English to his buddy-bad-guy (dunno from which country but he wasn’t asian) and this guy answers in Mandarin, haha.

The universal themes of bureaucratic corruption, distrust towards authority, political profiteering, and the possibility of maintaining personal integrity, in the face of systemic injustice, by acting in accordance with one’s own conscience. In this world, some are in the know who abuse their power, some learn and fight for justice, and some, like Hero’s supervisor Lieutenant Chen (陳組長), are oblivious and complacent.

Fun-fact: There were lots of ppl who are comedians in real life, playing gangsters in this movie. XDD
Other interesting/random facts:
Mostly shot in Kaohsiung with a hefty budget of NT$350 million, the movie is an ambitious project produced by a skilled crew of filmmakers.
Director Tsai and his team spent NT$30 million to have an aircraft mock-up made in the US. Now based in Kaoshiung, the plane is Taiwan’s first to be built specially for movies.
Needless to say, the resulting movie is packed with adrenaline-pumping action, all undertaken without stuntmen.
