Holiday Wishes

Step One

Make a post to your LJ. The post should contain a list of your holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple, homemade things ("I'd love a few LJ icons just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friends list (or friends' friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part: If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My list:

1. This one's easy: I'm already rather of the impression that the holiday season is going to blow for me. I have zero money to spend on Christmas presents and tons of people I have ideas for. So, I've been wanting to do a little card exchange thing with people. I didn't have the time last year, but now that I'm living in my own apartment, it would be so rad and cozy to start an annual list to give/receive holiday cards.

2. Someone to go thrifting with over break. Like I said--I'm broke. I pipe-dream about trips to H&M and my next pair of Calvin Klein jeans. I hear that the Goodwill stores around here are where it's at if you're patient, so I'd like to give it a try!

3. A new job and/or internship in the area. I'm sick of waiting tables. I made $17 last night from 4-9pm, time that would've been much more efficiently spent doing schoolwork. If anyone has any ideas, connections, or anything at all that would be helpful otherwise, it would be grand. If not, this is just kind of a plea I'm throwing out there to the universe.

4. Someone to help me customize a Wordpress blog. A lot of people (even my mom!) have been gravitating towards Wordpress lately. I want to start a new blog bent more towards academic writing, one in which my identity will remain anonymous. Sure, I could learn all this by myself, but it would be really nice to have someone else hold my hand, etc.

5. Exercise equipment. I'm fighting an uphill battle here and having stuff at the apartment would make it way easier. I'd love just about anything: some a yoga mat, 10-15lb weights, an exercise ball, a mini-trampoline for rebounding, or anything else anyone thinks could be useful.

6. Some old pots (terracotta, ceramic, etc.) to plant herbs in. My radiator in the living room has a huge slab of marble on it that would be perfect to radiate some heat to have a mini-herb garden to save some $$$ at the grocery store and liven up my cooking.

7. CD-RW's so I can make mixes for people.

8. Any cookbooks anyone wants to get rid of, especially things bent towards vegetarian/vegan interest or ways to cook fishies.

9. Any old comic books or music on vinyl. I collect both, at times voraciously, and am always looking to amplify my collection.

10. Absinthe. Not the American kind.

11. THE BIG 'UN: I'm totally not expecting to get this, but this is kind of the ultimate "please, Santa--cough, cough--I mean, MOM, can I have this for Christmas"....I want a 32" LCD TV for my living room. If anyone suddenly finds him/herself miraculously rich over the holidays, I'd love to have one, kthxbai.

12. Most importantly: I want people to hang out with this holiday season. To curl up and watch movies together, drink cocoa, bundle up and walk to the park and the like. I'm going to get really busy next semester and I want to spend the month in between well.
