So the season comes to an end and what an exciting one it was! Despite the results I’ve really enjoyed every minute of this year’s oscar race. Lots of great films and many deserving wins. Also always fun to live-tweet with all my gals :) The show was okay. The opening was terrible and fell flat. Also Seth McFarlene is a bit too controversial? IDK but some of his jokes were really tasteless. He held it together in the second half so it was okay but yep no Tina/Amy that’s for sure! As for
my predictions I got adapted screenplay, cinematography, production design, sound mixing and sound editing wrong! Yikes! lol
My thoughts:
THE GOOD
- 2 WINS FOR DJANGO!!!!!!!!! :’D
- Waltz winning supporting actor and as always loved his speech.
- Tarantino winning for screenplay! Another great moment and his speech! Such a boss lol
- 4 awards for Life of Pi! I had this gut feeling that it would do better than the other contenders and even if it didn’t win BP it still leads with 4 wins! Yay! :)
- ANG LEE ! ANG LEE! OMG he was such an underdog but all I wanted was to see him win for this film and I cannot believe it happened! :’D
- The cast of Chicago and All that Jazz! I love the movie so the whole tribute to the film was great to watch! CZJ hasn’t aged!
- DDL for Lincoln (And he gave a great speech again)
- Anna Karenina winning for Costume Design (I’m glad it took home something!) - Shirley Bassey’s performance.
- Barbara Streisand’s performance - Adele’s performance. (Unpopular opinion but the musical performances were fabulous and I enjoyed them alot!)
- 2 wins for Skfyall including Best Song! :’D
- Anne Hathaway’s speech was thankfully not annoying.
- Jennifer Lawrence’s shout-out to Riva for her birthday :’)
- Paperman for short animated film (If you haven’t then please see it! It’s up on youtube!)
- Ben Affleck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes I wasn’t exactly rooting for Argo for BP but I had decided that if it did I wanted to see Ben hold his producer’s oscar and give a speech! And I did and it was so so beautiful! I cried :’D
THE BAD
- Anna Karenina and Les Miserables both losing production design
- Skyfall and Anna Karenina both losing cinematography
- Prometheus losing VFX (but yeah that was expected)
- Lincoln losing Best Picture . Yeah it was a longshot but I still think it’s the stronger film. Argo was excellent and entertaining but Lincoln deserved to win IMO.
THE UGLY
- Riva losing Best Actress! (Broke my heart!)
- The boob song (ugh too much second hand embarrasment)
- Lincoln losing screenplay! (Travesty!)
- The Hobbit losing make-up (I mean seriously WHAT?. Either way I’m not too bothered rn coz it’s definitely going to win for parts 2 and 3)
