Of fanfiction long forgotten

Apr 27, 2011 23:32

I wrote both of these back in March for onelastfic and never even bothered to post them in my journal. I figure it's about time I put them somewhere they can actually be found. Feel free to leave me a comment and let me know what you think. It was a little new for me! But I did love trying it out.

Title: Angels & Demons
Rating: T
Category: Drama/Romance
Spoilers: General series stuff - up to early season 2.
Prompt: Damon/Katherine - give my soul, sing it free across the sea, lonely spell to conjure you but conjure hell is all I do (from scorpiod1 )

He gave her everything he had.

He was just a young, naive boy back then. Tired of war, but feeling so strong for it. In the ‘look at me, I did something with my life’ kind of way. At least, on the outside. On the inside, he was just tired. Tired of the small town life, tired of the many great expectations, tired of this, tired of that, and regularly contemplating how pointless life really was, if it could be wasted like that. War had destroyed him. He never let anyone see it, but it had. It wasn’t her that destroyed his life. That had been happening beforehand anyway.

But then she came. Suddenly life didn’t seem so pointless any more. She was wild and new and free. She was like a distant desert island, like a distant ship on the sea, like a beautiful bird, sailing away on distant winds. He gave her everything he had, because it was all he had left to give. It was the only way to feel that life was worth something. The only way to stop being tired of it all. He gave her his soul. He sang every praise of her he could. She was an angel.

Yet demons ruled her heart and she was the most ferocious, selfish creature he’d ever seen. But he loved it. It was a part of the mystery, and he wanted to explore it. He wanted to know the demons and angels that combining in her perfect body. He wanted to explore every inch of her, wanted to know every part of her soul, as he’d given his to her so completely. He never got the chance. The fires got her before he did.

He spent years lonely. He spent years trying to call her back. A lonely spell to conjure up his exotic beauty. He lived without her, but it wasn’t really living without her. Just existing. She was everything. He waited so long just to have his chance to get her back in his life. He was so devoted to her that he waited decades, centuries for her. He wouldn’t give up on his free flying bird, his mysterious lover. She was too unique to give up on. He just ignored his desires, hid them from the world, and drowned them in liquor and scotch.

One day the spell worked. She wasn’t where she was meant to be, and that had broken his heart. But she returned to him, anyway. He might have doubted her, but she was here now. He tried so hard to be furious, but he couldn’t do it. It was like heaven, having her in his arms again, even if it was only for a brief moment. But she was no angel. He could see that now. She was a demon, through and through. It was wrong that he loved it. It was wrong that he still desired her just as much as he had that first day.

It was just a shame that having her back and knowing the truth was a deeper level of hell than ignorance and not having her at all.

Title: Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This
Rating: T
Category: Drama/Romance
Spoilers: General series stuff - up to mid season 2.
Prompt: Elijah/Elena -

Dangerous is you to me, addicted I sure am
Lock me up and keep me from this devil's master plan
It mystifies me how you drive me crazy with a kiss
Spellbound, boy, I still dream of this
(from simply_aly )

It was the last thing anyone expected.

In the middle of the mess with the sacrifice and spells and making plans, no one expected it. They were too busy running around, doing everything with protect-Elena on the cover. No one understood she could look after herself. No one understood that she wanted to look after herself - she didn’t want anyone to sacrifice themselves for her. She was the sacrifice. She should be allowed to take risks, because either way, there was a ninety nine per cent chance that she was going to die. Statistically, she was already a lost cause. No point in relying on that one per cent. She may as well be allowed to save someone when she finally died. No one understood that.

No one but him.

He offered her a deal. She didn’t have to make it. She knew the meanings, the risks, the double intentions it might encompass. But she grabbed the chance with both hands. Because this was her choice. It meant her life was worth something, once it all ended. It meant she hadn’t just been a toy. She’d been a player in this game. She was very aware that she was signing herself up to be a part of the plan to destroy a force even more powerful than she could imagine. She knew that the deal-maker himself was dangerous. She knew at the end of this plan, she was going to die. But she couldn’t help herself. Elena Gilbert was dying to make a choice. Dangerous or not, the thrill it gave her was addicting. She figured it was because she so rarely made choices anymore.

He kept offering her choices, allowing her to be her own person, making her own path in the world. But eventually, it stopped being that. She wanted to go along with his idea - to lock her away from the world and keep her from the devil’s master plan. She wanted to everything he said. It seemed like a sound strategy. Of course, no one else agreed. But when did they? When would they finally understand she had done everything for them?

One night, he finally kissed her. Just once. Eloquently, on the cheek. A sweet goodbye for the sacrifice. The girl Elijah couldn’t save. It had never been the plan, and he didn’t break away from plans. It scared Elena that she thought about that kiss for a long time after he was gone. It drove her crazy for hours, remembering how it felt, thinking about those few seconds. She couldn’t get rid of the memory. It mystified her that she was so entranced by the moment. But no matter what she did, it wouldn’t go away.

When she slept that night, she dreamt of him. It was like she was spellbound. She murmured his name in her sleep. Stefan had been watching over her that night, making sure she was safe. He’d heard her voice. They’d all been expecting her to have nightmares about Elijah.

No one had been expecting her to dream of him.
