A Dream (written fall 2023)

Dec 01, 2023 23:38

They say you need to fall asleep on your own
Flat on your back not too warm.
You disagree.
(this poem is not a commentary on infant sleep practices)

But I'm here to say I don't blame you
Because there is nothing that sounds better in the world than if, just once more,
I could snuggle sideways
Into the warm squishiness of my mother's chest- no longer bony from the entropy of age-
And rest in the crook of her strong arm- no longer weak from chemo treatments-

I dreamt last night I held you all at once. I leaned in and smelled her perfect mommy hair while I snuggled your perfect baby heads and I tried so hard to never let go.

(This poem is a commentary on how mommies are the best)
