scratch that last entry. it happened, but the best part about it was the cops.
the first nice cop encounter occured on sunday morning at around 3 a.m. some (okay, a lot) of people were at my condo to celebrate being in our town, and i guess we got a little crazy (as in, some of our neighbors wanted us to be under citizen's arrest because we were so loud). did the three nice policemen give us a ticket? a warning? no...even though lauren and i were pretty trashed (and i was wearing a bob dylan tie dye t-shirt with gray still in my hair from the show--crazy much?), they just told us to send people home. i showed them the gray in my hair, telling them that it made me wise, and i would know which people to send home (stoned comment or what?). the cop then said:
nice cop: well, mine's natural.
me: well, some of us just aren't that lucky.
nice cop (to other nice cops): does this seem lucky to you?
we still ended up partying until about 6 a.m. (i resigned myself to sleep at about 5, and left people to fend for themselves--jeff found a nice spot on the floor).
a few hours later, i was driving up to santa barbara to have brunch with aaron and his parents. my car decides to get in an accident instead. police show up five minutes later, while i'm circling my car in a daze. they called a tow truck for me, called another unit to stop traffic so i could go across to the other side of the freeway, loaded my stuff into their car, and drove me to la conchita where aaron's dad (who called me "miss calamity") came and picked me up. this time, the good conversation went as follows:
(while driving in the police car--which was exciting enough already, let me tell you. and, the seats are REALLY comfortable)
me: have you guys ever seen "super troopers"?
friendly cops: of course!
me: did it inspire you to join the force?
friendly cop 1: well, i had already been in the force before i saw it, but let me tell you, there is a lot of truth in that film.
me: (hmmm...)
anyway, the rest of my easter was very enjoyable: i got to have a REALLY nice brunch with aaron and his parents (i needed that champagne after the accident, seriously), and then aaron and i drove down to my parents' house, where the whole family was back together again (randi's back from italy now!)!
and the whole weekend was great: the cast of our town will forever go down in history as the most ADD cast ever; and also the most fun. emily krech will also go down in history as the worst stage manager i've ever worked with!! yay!!!
