Character Name: Toph Bei Fong
Series/Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Original or Alternate: Original.
Age: 12
Appearance: Toph is a very short little girl with black hair that's actually quite long when down. Her bangs come down to her nose and partially cover her eyes. Speaking of eyes, she's blind. Utterly, completely blind. All you see are faded green eyes, shadowed by black bangs. She's always barefoot, and a little dirty (actual dirt wise). Despite her age and appearance as a helpless little blind girl, Toph is actually very strong and pretty well-muscled.
Personality: Toph is small yet deadly. And blind, don't forget that (or she'll eat your facebe terribly sarcastic at you). And 12, but relatively mature (in terms of taking care of herself, at least). Having been the only child of the richest family in town (the world probably), one would think that Toph's a spoiled little socialite. However, due to her blindness, her parents believed her to be completely helpless and vulnerable. This drove her to run away from home at the age of six, get lost, and learn Eartbending from Badgermoles (which is the way the original Earthbenders learned it, one of the reasons she excels at it). She's got a wickedly sarcastic sense of humor and isn't afraid to use it. Stubborn and fiercely independent, she is quick to anger when she thinks people are doing things for her or looking down on her because of her blindness. She is always barefoot due to the nature of her "sight" via Earthbending (and has complained about the lack of stylish shoes for an Earthbender whose feet need to be bare). She's sassy and sarcastic and likes to be thought of as aloof and mysterious and bad ass. Although Toph was brought up in an extremely rich and high-class family, she doesn't give a crap about proper manners and enjoys being crass. When she manages to pick up some good curse words, she'll probably never stop using them. She never had friends until the Avatar and his group came to down Once she befriends someone, she's fiercely loyal - it just takes her awhile to get there, partly due to a lack of social skills.
History: All her life, Toph's parents kept her cloistered from the world, to the extent that nobody even knew she existed. They thought they were protecting her, because they viewed her blindness as an extreme handicap, that she'd never be able to function alone. She never had even a single friend. Being smart and stubborn, Toph took exception to this and ran away many times. After she learned Earthbending from the Badgermoles during her escape at age 6, she worked in secret to perfect her 'bending and entered a series of Earthbending tournaments known as Earth Rumble. In those tournaments, she had a perfect record of 42-0 until the Avatar Aang showed up and defeated her with Airbending. This streak of success helped her develop her tough, sassy, take no crap attitude. When her parents found out about her Earthbending, instead of realizing that she could function on her own, they decided to keep her under 24/7 guard, supposedly for her own good. She then ran away, to travel with the Avatar. However, things didn't go as smoothly as planned. With little to no actual social skills, Toph didn't get along too well with the group, Katara especially. After a sleepless night of fleeing from Azula and screaming at each other, she left the Gaang and ended up running into the deposed General Iroh of the Fire Nation. He gave her tea, and they had a nice long chat about doing things for other people because you want to and friendship. On her way back to the Gaang, she got hijacked by teh Phase.
World Segment Description: Her parents' estate and the arena for the Earth Rumble tournaments.
RP sample: Toph scuffed her feet in the dirt unhappily. For an instant, she wanted to be home with her parents, where she hated the boundaries set to her but at least she knew what was going on and where she stood in regards to everything. First the Avatar had convinced her she wanted to be free, so she left with them. But where had that gotten her? Right. Lost, miles from everything she knew, everyone she knew, and with no way to get home except by walking. Fantastic. Things were easier in the gilded cage.
Suddenly she scowled and shook her head to clear the doubting thoughts. She didn't need the Avatar or his stupid friends. Or the flying bison or the flying monkeything. She didn't need anyone. Blind Bandit, damnit! Winner of Earth Rumble championships! To heck with the Avatar. Screw them and their stupid quest and..
Yeah, she had nothing. This sucked, almost as much as getting captured by the stupid Earth Rumble guys. At least she'd been able to beat the crap outta them. Here, she felt pretty helpless, and didn't have anyone to talk to about it. But she didn't need anyone
Wait, there was someone hiding back there. Someone spying on her. Existential crisis averted. Clobberin' time!
