*and here's Alan, passing into the kitchen. Of course, he's not in search of any sort of company (especially not Lord Henry's), but merely looking for bread. Possibly to grow interesting molds on.*

*A victim--! er. that is. an acquaintance. ignore the slightly devious smile* Alan. How very pleasant to see you.

*looks around, a little startled* *evenly* Good evening, Lord Wotton. Or should I say morning?

*glances at the clock* Morning, I suppose. *stands and fetches another glass-- not bothering to ask if Alan would like to stay for a drink, as he's decided he will-- and pours some wine in before offering it to his prey Alan*

[nitricnotes]

*glances at the wine* No, thank you. I have work to do.

Oh? I must say, I doubt it's anything so pressing you couldn't spare the time for a glass of wine. *and there's a hand on Alan's shoulder now, casually but firmly guiding him in the direction of one of the chairs*

[nitricnotes]

*sits down, then, looking rather unhappy about it* I merely came in here to find some bread -- *but he's tired, and is probably, secretly, glad of the rest*

And you ran into an old friend. Nothing wrong in taking a brief respite. You needn't exhaust yourself constantly, you know.

[nitricnotes]

I am hardly exhausting myself. *sips at the wine, though, watching Henry over the rim of the glass* This experiment has kept me busy recently, is all.

[visiblemystery]

Don't they all? *takes a long drink from his own glass* But I quite understand. When one is pursuing a truly remarkable project, it is no small thing to leave it be.

[nitricnotes]

*still sipping, and idly twirling the glass stem between his fingers* Well, yes. What, pray, was your remarkable project?

[visiblemystery]

*smiles faintly over the top of his glass, amused* My pasttime is people. I daresay beyond that point you can draw your own conclusions. You are, after all, a man of science. Where does logic take you?

[nitricnotes]

*raises an eyebrow* Well, to Dorian, of course. *and takes a rather large sip of wine* But that is nothing new.

[visiblemystery]

A fascinating experiment in personality, you must admit. *grin* It doesn't take much to make you think of him, I notice.

[nitricnotes]

*doubtfully, taking another swallow of wine* I suppose. *and this is a frown* Sometimes it is rather difficult not to.

[visiblemystery]

*and perhaps, at that, there's a trace of sympathy in his smile, though the amusement hasn't faded* I'm quite aware. It does ensure some level of interest, though, doesn't it?
