So, That Reading I Need To Do? It Can Wait

Sep 10, 2008 12:44

No, really. As can all the fic I'm supposed to be writing. And the problem sets for Econ, well, I don't even have the book with me right now, so I can't do that till I get it. Totally. So, what else do I have to do with with myself, but: a music meme, from lotus0kid!

List seven songs that you are currently loving. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the songs in your blog.

1) Act of the Apostle II- Belle & Sebastian
The entire thing is basically what my mental process sounds like. Especially the: "I'm in senior year/It gives you a little free time/I'll just use it all at once". Yeah, that's totally me.

2) Sam's Town- The Killers
I feel a little bad mentioning it, because it was part of lotus0kid's fanmixes, but it's the song that really got me into The Killers, who are currently what I'm mostly listening to, so there we go. It's just got a lot of energy to it, and it makes me feel all cool walking around campus to it. Yeah, I'm always on the look out for theme music, what can I say?

3) And So It Goes- Billy Joel.
Yes, it's Billy Joel, and yes, it's sappy, as ballads tend to be, but...but...it's heartbreaking. Just the soft little piano music and I love soft, simple piano music. And it's vaguely Plaude-y, if Claude were a good deal sappier so...there we are. I'll stop justifying it now.

4) The Finish Line- Snow Patrol
The whole song is lovely, but it's the first verse (stanza? I don't know) that really gets to me. It's evocative and soft but it kind of foreshadows something greater and...I love it. It's about fresh starts, in an ironic enough way.

5) Papa Was A Rodoe- The Magnetic Fields
I do like this song for more reasons than the fact that it's teasingly homoerotic. Seriously. But it's just such a visual song ("I see that kiss-me pucker forming/but maybe you should plug it with a beer") and such a very midwest, dusty road, dirty diner romance song...it's practically a movie.

6) 14th Street- Rufus Wainwright
I'm not quite sure where I developed my fondness for songs that have inherently depressing lyrics, but still sound happy and bouncy, but this is a classic example, and also, from that period I had in high school where I thought Rufus Wainwright was the best thing ever.

7) Killer Queen- Queen
The funnest song ever to sing at the top of your lungs with your Queen-obsessed roommate when you're supposed to be doing homework. Ah, freshman year. So much fun.
