I Have Returned, Triumphant!

Apr 19, 2008 00:18

From my quest for a new power cord for my crappy computer. Well. It's a mac, so it's never really crappy just...eccentric.

Like the way it makes TARDIS noises when I turn it on. That kind of eccentric.

I've also caught up on Scrubs and Eli Stone. Which was exciting. Because Scrubs was actually good and funny, and Eli Stone was likewise good, and had singing! And George Michael as God. Which is really as it should be.

List seven songs that you are currently loving. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the songs in your blog.

1) She Had the World: Panic At the Disco
Darn you, trippypeas. Darn you. But c'mon, I really just like this song.

I don't love you I'm just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
But who could love me?
I am out of my mind

2) Dress Up In You: Belle & Sebastian
I just love how wonderfully passive aggressive it is. Just...fills me with snarky, bitter joy.

I'm the singer, I'm the singer in the band
You're the loser, I won't dismiss you out of hand
'Cos you've got a beautiful face
It will take you places

3) Over My Shoulder: I Am Kloot
More for the sound of it than the lyrics, really. Also, I kind of love the video.

Shut your mouth, and watch my lips,
Can you feel her healing finger tips,
Coming down, on you like rain,
Tell me now where do we remain,
Over my shoulder it goes,
and where it lands, you don't want to know

4) Is Anybody There?: From 1776, sung by John Adams (William Daniels).
Okay, first off? Mr. Feeny singing! Second of all, it just makes me feel all warm and patriotic.
Context wise, it's all about John Adams pushing for the Declaration of Independence to be voted on in the Continental Congress, and approved unanimously. Anyway. It makes me happy. For more context: video!

They want to me to quit; they say
John, give up the fight
Still to England I say
Good night, forever, good night!
For I have crossed the Rubicon
Let the bridge be burned behind me
Come what may, come what may
Commitment!

5) New Soul: Yael Naïm
Okay, yeah, I am totally the Apple Company's bitch. I'll admit it. Freely. Video, which you've all seen. If there was ever a song that didn't fit me, this is it. And I have to hear it every day I work, because the CD is in rotation. And yet...

This is a happy end
Cause you don't understand
Everything you have done
Why's everything so wrong

6) The Girl is Mine: Stephen Colbert and John Legend.
Need I say more? Really? Just watch it, if you will: video!

I know she'll tell you I'm the one for her
'Cause she said I blow her mind
The girl is mine
The doggone girl is mine
Don't waste your time
Because the doggone girl is mine

7) The Plan!: Full version of the song from this series of commercials. All so very, very hilarious. But with lyrics like:

And now it's time to fight
Like an eagle in flight
With eagle eyes and eagle claws
Woah, I digressed from the plan!

How could you lose ?

Oh, and an extra one, because it's awesome:

Your Heart Is An Empty Room: Death Cab for Cutie.
Because it was an integral part of the best scene in New Amsterdam, which I liked until it got kind of boring. It's at the end of the pilot episode, if you're interested. But anyway:

The flames and smoke climbed out of every window
And disappeared with everything that you held dear
But you shed not a single tear for the things that you didn't need
Cause you knew you were finally free

Good song, that.

(Apologies to people on my flist, as livejournal is being kind of weird and perhaps my cuts aren't working).

meme, music
